Pancreatic adenocarcinoma incidence increased across all age groups from 2000 to 2025, according to a study published in the journal JAMA Network Open.

Researcher Arvind Bussetty, MD, of the University School of Medicine in New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA and colleagues have reported updated trends in pancreatic and colorectal adenocarcinoma cases in the United States in a retrospective cohort study that used data from a nationally representative, epidemiological surveillance database to examine trends from 2000 to 2025.

The researchers identified 275,273 cases of pancreatic adenocarcinoma from 2000 to 2025. The annual percentage change (APC) in pancreatic adenocarcinoma cases was 4.35 percent in the 15-55 and older age group, which was significantly higher than the APC indicators of 1.74 and 1.54 percent for those aged 55 and older and 35-57 years, respectively.

A total of 1,215,200 cases of colorectal cancer were identified. The cases of colorectal adenocarcinoma were -3.31 percent in those aged 55 and older, which was significantly lower than the 1.75 and 0.78 percent for those aged 15-34 and 35-54 years, in that order.
