Superdrug has officially launched its online marketplace, claiming to be the first high street health and beauty retailer to do so, ahead of major UK rival Boots, which launches its marketplace next spring.

It will “bring thousands of new brands” to its website, featuring an “entire new range of undiscovered, innovative, affordable products to UK consumers for the first time”, the retailer promises.
And since announcing plans for the launch in March, the retailer said it has signed up 300 brands to the new platform. It noted there will also be focus on growing trends including homegrown, female-founded, sustainable and inclusive new brands.
Brands include cruelty-free ethical skincare range Up Circle, UK brand Nature Spell, gender-free make-up brand Jecca Blac and women’s razor brand FFS Beauty.
“The platform has been seamlessly integrated on Superdrug.com, providing customers with a smooth journey for purchasing products from both established brands and exciting new sellers”, Superdrug said. Third-party marketplace products will sit alongside its own products and will be identifiable with a marketplace logo and banner.
Marketing and e-commerce director Matt Walburn, who led the platform’s development, said: “Marketplace is the exciting next step in our digital transformation programme. Our intention is twofold: to promote diversity by supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses within the industry and to dramatically increase our range on Superdrug.com; broadening and strengthening our accessible beauty and health offering to our customers.”
