Two major global brands are back on the expansion trail in the UK, with Tommy Hilfiger re-emerging in Scotland and Zara opening a major flagship in Wales.

Zara is gearing up to expand with a major opening of its latest concept store at the Landsec-operated St David’s shopping centre in Cardiff. The 36,500 sq ft flagship store will sell the brand’s full range of menswear, womenswear and accessories.

Located within the centre’s Upper Grand Arcade, the two-level store will open this summer. The new store format is omnichannel-focused and includes an automated collection point, plus self-service and dedicated refund tills which will add to a seamless customer experience while helping drive additional footfall to the store, noted Zara.

Russell Loveland, senior portfolio director at Landsec, said: “Zara is the leading brand for global powerhouse Inditex, and their commitment to St David’s is a sign of the strength of Cardiff and St David’s”.

The Zara store joins sister brands Bershka and Stradivarius at the St David’s mall.

Meanwhile Hilfiger is to open two new stores at Hammerson’s flagship destinations Silverburn in Glasgow, and Union Square in Aberdeen. The stores mark its return to Scotland “as part of the brand’s expanding UK store portfolio”.

Each 2,000 sq ft store will stock the Tommy Hilfiger Spring 2025 menswear, womenswear and accessories collections, “showcasing the brands classic American cool style”.

The Silverburn store is due to open in-line with Scotland’s timing for non-essential retail restrictions lifting, Hilfiger said.

Iain Mitchell, UK commercial director at Hammerson, called the the brand’s openings as “an incredible addition to our existing array of international and independent brands at Silverburn and Union Square.

“Today’s announcement also highlights how the strongest locations remain in demand”.
