Summer was a good time for London Designer Outlet and for businesses in the Wembley Park neighbourhood as the return of live concerts drove massive footfall to the area.

The neighbourhood always sees a boost during concerts, but the area’s landlord and developer Quintain said this week that Ed Sheeran superfans outspent fans of Harry Styles, Coldplay, Westlife and Foo Fighters in driving sales and footfall during performances at Wembley Stadium. They spent £667,005 during the Shape of You star’s gig on 25 June, 16% more than the £574,166 Harry Styles fans spent on 18 June.

And 10 brands saw their best-ever trading days this summer across the neighbourhood – seven of them due to Ed Sheeran's show dates. Footfall was also 25% higher during Sheeran’s performance compared to Styles’.

In third place were Westlife fans, who spent £543,472 across Wembley Park and LDO on 6 August. The 90s boyband were followed by Coldplay fans, who collectively spent £516,642 during their gig on 13 August.

Matt Slade, Retail Director at Quintain, said the return of large, live Wembley Stadium and OVO Arena Wembley events resulted in an exceptionally strong summer for trading.

That was despite widespread reports of consumers reining-in their spending in general in recent months.

Slade also said that general trading and footfall were “consistently high” even without the impact of events.

There are now around nine million people living within its catchment area, as well as around 6,000 in the immediate area.
