H&M Group has announced that its Arket chain is moving into Spain, its second new country this year. Arket will open a flagship store in Barcelona during the autumn and this will be the brand’s first physical location in Spain.
The brand’s MD Pernilla Wohlfahrt said the Spanish debut will be one of Arket’s “most important events of the year”.
It will be a lifestyle destination combining a curated selection of ready-to-wear and accessories for women and men, childrenswear, bodycare and interior design.
The debut follows the brand further expanding in eastern Europe with news in May that it will open a flagship store, complete with cafe, in Riga this year – its first physical destination in Latvia.
Just as with its portfolio-mate Cos, H&M Group has been very cautious with its rollout of Arket around the world and two countries in such a short time is quite unusual for the company. It tends to enter single countries and establish itself there before moving on. It also keeps store numbers carefully under control.
Based in Stockholm, Arket was launched in 2025 “with the mission to simplify good choices and provide inspiration for a more beautiful everyday life”. Its design philosophy is rooted in the Nordic modernist movement of the 20th century and it has a fairly seasonless buy-it-use-it-and-keep-it approach rather than pushing excessive consumption.
