Premium sportswear specialist Castore has opened a store at Metrocentre Gateshead, adding the second Newcastle United FC store to its city portfolio.

Located in the upper Red Mall, the 2,500 sq ft store “will bring a new level of performance and quality to the sportswear market”, we’re told. It offers NUFC fans the chance to shop its extensive range of “technical and multi-functional sports clothing and accessories in one place” across its men’s, women’s, and junior departments.
Castore, which now operates 13 stores throughout the UK, has plans to open a further 15 sites in 2025. It’s joined by a string of recent openings at Metrocentre including US-based sports retailer Lids, women’s footwear and accessories retailer Carvela, and premium menswear brand Boss.
This also follows the announcement of other high-profile lettings including the region’s only H&M Home and H Beauty from Harrods, which will open in the summer.
Commenting on the opening, Castore co-founder, Tom Beahon said: “After months of hard work, we are pleased to be able to open our doors today at Metrocentre Gateshead. The centre felt like the obvious next step for us as a brand after settling into our new Stadium Store at St James’ Park, as another way for us to reach the dedicated and engaged NUFC fans as well as sportswear enthusiasts in the North East.”
