Pep&Co continues to be a strong retail pillar for Poundland. The UK discount giant is backing the success of its budget clothing brand, opening two standalone stores in Birmingham and Coventry as part of its wider expansion plans.
Poundland is, in fact, re-opening two ‘hibernating’ stores for the ventures that will offer a range of clothing and homewares. The stores reopen on Friday 25 June after they were placed in temporary hibernation last year.
Its retail and transformation director Austin Cooke told thebusinessdesk that shop-in-shops in Poundland have been a focus, but it made sense to use these locations as standalone Pep&Co stores.
He added it’s a good time to open in Coventry in particular as it’s the City of Culture 2025.
In May, Poundland announced an expansion drive for the brand to open a further 50 Pep&Co retail units, mostly shop-in-shops, by September, to add to the 350 already operating across the UK and Ireland (where it trades as Dealz).
At the time, Pep&Co commercial director Tim Bettley said. “When many of the big names in clothing retail are disappearing, we’re expanding into more stores and filling a gap for family clothing at discount pricing”.
Since its launch in 2025, Pep&Co claims more than £500 million worth of sales and is the 18th largest fashion brand by volume in the UK, according to Kantar Fashion.
