HBO is close to signing its first major actor to play one of the biggest roles in the upcoming Harry Potter series.
The studio is currently in the final stages of negotiations to sign John Lithgow to play Professor Albus Dumbledore, Deadline reports.
HBO declined to comment on the news, but did not deny that Lithgow was discussing a deal. "We understand that a high-profile series like this will generate a lot of speculation and rumors," HBO said. "As we move through pre-production, we will confirm details only once we have deals in place."
Lithgow, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actor Oscars for The World According to Garp (1982) and Terms of Endearment (1983), recently received a fresh wave of critical praise for his starring role in the Oscar-nominated film The Clave.
